The Explorer can technically carry seven passengers, but the inside seems claustrophobic due to the third row of seats being arranged with children in mind. In comparison to the cabins of rival vehicles, the Honda Accord is noticeably quieter, and the quality of the materials and décor is pleasant, though understated.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration for touchscreen infotainment systems are standard on all 2024 Ford Explorer Sport variants. In most cases, these screens are just eight inches in size, but in the ST, Platinum, and King Ranch trims, a 10.1-inch vertical screen is standard equipment.
The second-row captain’s chairs fold down to make room for a third row in all but the base trim. The front row of seats can be heated and have power adjustments made to them. The Explorer XLT, the next step up, is a better choice than the Explorer Sport for most buyers.
Adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and enhanced forward sensing are just some of the “Co-Pilot360 Assist” technologies that come standard on the Limited trim level’s navigation system, heated steering wheel, and leather upholstery. Large high-performance brake pads and 21-inch wheels are standard on the Explorer ST to help it stop its 400 horsepower as quickly as possible.
Interior Design
This Ford has more storage space than many smaller and medium-sized SUVs. The 2024 Ford Explorer Sport has 18.2 cubic feet of capacity behind the third row. It has a maximum of 87.8 cu. Ft. of space, with 47.9 cu. Ft. available when the second row of seats is up. You can fit seven people inside the Explorer or six if you count the captain’s chairs in the middle row. One of the best places to sit is in the first row, as these seats are the widest and most comfortable in the theater.
Even though there are middle and third-row seats, they are less spacious and well-supported than those in some competing midsize SUVs. Two LATCH connectors are located in the second row. Two are located in the third row, etc. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave this system a “good” rating for its ease of use.
Assumptions could be made about the higher tether anchors. The interior of the Explorer could be more exciting, but it’s not dull, either. Ford, on the other hand, employs more hard plastics than its rivals, which means that its materials are less high quality than theirs.
With its intuitive SYNC 3 interface and standard 8-inch touchscreen, the Explorer is a pleasure to use. The 10.1-inch vertical touch screen on the new system could be more effective at enhancing the user experience. You can plug your phone into the standard system, but it won’t work with the upgraded system that has a touch screen.
Engine Performance
The 2024 Ford Explorer Sport comes equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 300 hp. The 365 and 400 horsepower offered by the two optional twin-turbocharged V6s are impressive. They are all connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford just unveiled a hybrid version of its popular Explorer SUV, which we inspected. This SUV’s base engine is more than adequate for your requirements.
Despite having a class-leading 400 horsepower engine, the Explorer ST nevertheless lags behind the V6 competitors in acceleration. Sometimes the automatic transmission will be slow to make a shift. The Explorer has above-average city/highway fuel efficiency for a midsize SUV, with 21/28 mpg. The vehicle has the rear-wheel drive as standard equipment.
The EPA has given the twin-turbo V6 vehicles an estimated fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. A good driving experience can be had in the Explorer despite its large size, thanks to its responsive steering. The soft suspension will cause some body roll on twisty roads, but otherwise, the ride quality will be satisfactory.
